The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the effects of a non-invasive experimental treatment for mild cognitive impairment and memory loss. People with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) have a slight but noticeable decline in cognitive function (memory and thinking skills) that is worse than expected for their age, but not severe enough to interfere with their daily activities. Research suggests that some individuals living with MCI may go on to develop dementia. However, not everyone does. Researchers at Mass General Brigham are exploring the effects of an experimental therapy called Transcranial Photobiomodulation (tPBM) in adults with MCI. tPBM is a non-invasive treatment that delivers near-infrared light through a helmet-like device to stimulate blow flow to certain parts of the brain. Blood flow stimulation may improve symptoms of MCI. Your participation in this study may help researchers develop better treatments for MCI and early Alzheimer's disease.
