About Our Research Study
Do you struggle with opioid use? OR Are you in recovery? You are not alone. We can help you get treatment. Individuals with opioid use disorder often experience depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. It can be hard to find treatment to help with these and other mental health conditions. This study will test different ways that people can get treatment for opioid use and mental health symptoms together, all in their primary care office. Study participants will receive medication for OUD in primary care. You may also receive help getting a mental health referral, counseling, and recovery support in addition to other services you already receive. The purpose of this research study is to test a collaborative care model of support in primary care to help treat opioid use disorder and mental health conditions.
You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

- 18+ years old
- Diagnosed with OUD or taking medication for OUD
- If not already taking medication, willing to start medication at participating primary care practice
- Experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, or PTSD
- Have access to a reliable, working telephone
Once enrolled, this study involves:
2) OUD treatment and one-on-one mental health treatment with a mental health care clinician in primary care, or
3) OUD treatment and mental health treatment in primary care, plus a certified recovery specialist (CRS). A CRS is a credentialed professional with lived experience who provides person-centered peer support, guidance, and mentorship for resiliency and a healthy recovery lifestyle.
- 1 baseline interview (about 70 minutes total): eligibility screening, informed consent, and baseline questionnaires. These three parts can be done all in one call or on separate calls.
- 6 research interviews (up to 1 hour each): once per month for 6 months, we would ask you about your mental health, substance use, treatment services received, and other health factors.
- 2 urine drug screens: after 3 months and after 6 months, collected from primary care practice.
- Treatment: you will be randomized into one of 3 treatment groups for 6 months. You will either receive:

3) OUD treatment and mental health treatment in primary care, plus a certified recovery specialist (CRS). A CRS is a credentialed professional with lived experience who provides person-centered peer support, guidance, and mentorship for resiliency and a healthy recovery lifestyle.
Compensation up to $260 is provided for your time
