Study Background
This research study will explore the effect of a medication called Brexanolone as a treatment for PTSD in premenopausal women.
We are specifically investigating treatment for PTSD from civilian (non-military) trauma. If you are between the ages of 18-50 and are in good physical health, you may qualify for this study.

Additional Information
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of Brexanolone, delivered intravenously over a continuous 60-hour period, to treat PTSD in non-veteran premenopausal women.
You may qualify for our study if you meet the following criteria.

- Female
- 18-50 years old
- Premenopausal
- Not a veteran
- In good physical health
- Not pregnant, nursing, or less than 6 months postpartum
- Willing to use effective birth control (complete abstinence, Intrauterine device, Birth control pills, or condoms) during participation in the study and 30 days afterward
- No history of psychotic disorders
- No history of seizure disorders
- No substance use disorder in the past 6 months
First, there will be a screening, which involves the following:
Participants who qualify will be admitted to the hospital for 3 days. During that time, participants will receive an intravenous Brexanolone infusion continuously for 60 hours.
Participants will then have 5 follow-up visits on Day 7, Day 14, Day 30, Day 60, and Day 90 after the infusion is completed.
- physical examination, including height and body weight,
- vital signs,
- blood and urine collection for clinical laboratory testing, including pregnancy testing and drug & alcohol screening,
- ECG, and
- psychiatric assessments.
Participants who qualify will be admitted to the hospital for 3 days. During that time, participants will receive an intravenous Brexanolone infusion continuously for 60 hours.
Participants will then have 5 follow-up visits on Day 7, Day 14, Day 30, Day 60, and Day 90 after the infusion is completed.
Participants will receive up to $1700 for completing the study.
