About Our Research Study
| Help researchers learn more about a new treatment for asthma. Join our study! The University of Colorado is conducting a research study designed to examine how a new anti-inflammatory treatment improves the quality of life for individuals diagnosed with asthma who have a BMI greater than 30 kg/m2 . Excess weight is associated with the development of asthma, worsening asthma symptoms, and poor asthma control. It affects nearly 40% of the asthmatics in the United States. Our researchers are looking to partner with adults 18-65 years old who regularly take asthma medication for this study. Participation in this research study may aid in the development of this new treatment which aims to improve asthma control and lung function. The University of Colorado is conducting this research study to examine how a new anti-inflammatory treatment improves the quality of life for individuals diagnosed with asthma who have a BMI greater than 30 kg/m2 . Participation in this research study may aid in the development of this new treatment which aims to improve asthma control and lung function.
You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.
Eligibility Criteria:
Eligibility Criteria:
- 18 - 65 years old
- Have been diagnosed with asthma by a healthcare provider (>6 months ago)
- Take regular medication for asthma
- Have a BMI greater than 30 kg/m2
- Not pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to get pregnant in the next 8 months
Once enrolled, this study involves:
- Up to 6 in-person visits over the course of 21 to 24 weeks (the study team will work to accommodate your schedule)
- General health questions
- Lung function tests & physical exams
- Urine tests for pregnancy (if female), nicotine, and marijuana
- Blood sample
- Taking the study drug (L-citrulline) and a placebo
Participants will be compensated for their time.
