About this research study:
McLean Hospital researchers are conducting a research study to understand how abusive experiences and depression affect brain activity in women.
You are not alone in your past abusive experiences. Over 10 million people experience abuse every year and this often leads to psychiatric problems such as depression.
We believe that based on certain elements during your experiences, there are different areas of your brain that are affected which may impair your everyday functions. Our study will investigate the affects in women who experience past abuse and current depression. We hope to identify ways to predict how abusive experiences will affect your brain.

McLean Hospital researchers are conducting a research study to understand how abuse and depression affect brain activity in women.
You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

- Are a female
- Are between the ages of 20 and 32
- Are right-handed
- Not currently taking any medication for your condition
This is a one-year study with four sessions, for clinical assessment, MRI scanning, 6-month follow-up, and 12-month follow-up.
The Assessment visit will include informed consent procedure, a clinical assessment using a structured interview and clinical scales, and administration of several self-report questionnaires.
The Scanning visit will involve tests for drug use and pregnancy, an MRI Safety assessment, a pre- and post-stress blood draw, an MRI and MRS scan, and additional self-report questionnaires.
Two Follow-up visits will be conducted, at 6 months and 12 months after the scanning visit.

You may earn up to $665 for completing all study-related visits.
