Our team is partnering with people who use opioids recreationally to be a part of our research studies. Our goal is to learn more about Opioid Use Disorder.
If you choose to participate in one of our studies, you will receive various psychoactive drugs, answer questionnaires about the drug effect and your general mood, and you will complete behavioral and pain tolerance tasks.

The University of Kentucky is conducting this research study to understand the effects of recreational opioid use.
You may qualify for one of our studies if you meet the following criteria.

- Age 18 to 55
- Not seeking treatment for substance use disorders
- Not physically dependent on alcohol or benzodiazepines
- Within 25% of ideal body weight
- No significant health/psychological problems
- Not pregnant
We are recruiting people who use opioids to participate in inpatient sessions where you will receive various psychoactive drugs, answer questionnaires about the drug effect, your general mood, and you will be asked to perform behavioral tasks and pain tolerance tasks. If you have physical dependence on opioids, you will receive daily maintenance doses to help lessen the symptoms of withdrawal.
Our studies require a stay in the hospital that can range from 4 to 9 weeks. Participants will need to qualify first based on a 30–60-minute phone screen and then 2-3 in-person screening visits that last 3-4 hours each.

Qualified participants will be compensated for their participation. Travel expenses may be reimbursed.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research program.
