Facts About Our Study
Our research study is studying the potential cognitive effects of CVL-562 in early-course schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder or related psychotic disorder
Participants from 18 to 45 years old
Diagnosed with Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective, or Schizophreniform disorder within the last 10 years
Willing to participate in a study of the potential cognitive effects of a novel experimental medicine
Compensation up to $2,910 is provided

Study Background
Schizophrenia is a disabling neuropsychiatric illness characterized by disturbances in perception of reality. The primary objective of this study is to examine the effects of novel medication on the neural signal of brain regions involved in cognition in patients with schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders.
Additional Information
Schizophrenia affects approximately 1% of the population and is highly debilitating given the effects it has on cognition, sensory perception, and social/motivational functioning. Cognitive disturbances are considered to be one of the main reasons for enormous functional disability in patients with schizophrenia and associated psychotic illnesses. The overarching aim of this study is to further investigate areas of cognition impaired in schizophrenia, particularly spatial working memory as assessed with functional neuroimaging.
You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

- 18 to 45 years old
- Diagnosed with Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective, or Schizophreniform disorder within the last 10 years
- Willing to participate in a study of the potential cognitive effects of a novel experimental medicine
- Able to do MRI scan
Your participation in this study will require 7 total visits over approximately 2 months.
Study Treatment:
You will receive one of 5 various doses on each visit. 4 of these doses will be of the study drug,
and one will be a placebo, otherwise known as an inactive substance (such as a sugar pill). This is a double-blind study, meaning neither you nor the study doctor and staff will know to which of these groups you have been assigned to. However, in case of an emergency, the study doctor can get this information.
After Study Treatment:
You will be called approximately 1 month after this follow-up visit to assess for possible long-term effects (if any).
