Approximately 5.7 million people in the United States suffer from Bipolar Disorder every year. This condition is now considered a national health issue that researchers are developing new treatments for. In our research study at UPMC, researchers are studying emotions and Bipolar symptoms through imaging and brain stimulation in individuals who have been diagnosed with Bipolar I and II Disorder.

The purpose of this research study is to find out about brain activity in participants with and without Bipolar Disorder.
You may qualify for our research study if you meet the following criteria:
Inclusion criteria:
18-35 years old
Have a Bipolar Disorder diagnosis
Not in a current episode of depression
Exclusion Criteria
History of seizures
Currently pregnant
Metal in body
Claustrophobic
The research study has multiple visits and involves answering questionnaires, having a lifetime psychiatric assessment, and having fMRI scans. This research study does not involve receiving medication or treatment.
Participants are compensated for their time.
